PROJECT PROFILE OF VLCT & RC
Vasantha Lakshmi Charitable Trust and Research Centre, Pogathota, Nellore, A.P (VLCT & RC) was founded by Dr.T.Ravi Kumar M.D.,D.C.H in 1993 and registered in 1998 as a voluntary, non-profit and social welfare organization with a vision of providing basic necessities and initiate developmental activities and opportunities for the human, material resource development for the children, the down trodden, the destitute, the despondent and the unwanted and with a vision for the empowerment of women.
In the backdrop of the ignorant, illiterate poor people; and the rigid social conditions of the, community the Trust initiated various activities for the upliftment, enlightenment and sustainable changes for these people.
It is appropriate to say that, the idea of the service to the needy, by establishment a Trust, is not dictated by logic; but, by intuiti vevision.
HEALTH AWARENESS, CAPACITY BUILDING:
At a time when the whole locality was reeling under the onslaught of JE, VLCT & RC, undertook the responsibility of administer in vaccinations for JE,HepB, Measles, Polio, DPT etc. Tthe children in the Rural areas of the District by purchasing from the Government of India [JE Vaccine] at a cost of one and a half lakh rupees. The Trust distributed pamphlets for Health Awareness to prevent Brain-fever, spreading in the slums. The task was concentrated more in these to the Fisher-men of Krishnapatnam and Venkatanarayana puram villages and other slums of Nellore dist.
Gollapalli village was under the threat of communicable disease & VLCT & RC played an active role in preventing the disease by identifying the affected children.
Mosquito Eradication Programme was implemented in order to reduce the incidence of malaria very prevalent in the district. Sicnce GAMBUSIA FISH can be used as a biological weapon against the multiplication of mosquitoes, the Trust cultiva and develop them in its own ponds (which are at Padugupadu village in Kovur Mandal of Nellore Dist) and distributed them at no cost to the affected areas in the villages and to the urban slum.
victims road accidents on National Highway No.5 were also taken as a priority issue and to rescue them in time, the Trust donated “ HIGHWAY AMBULANCE” to the Department of Police, for maintaining an emergency medical care centre at Bogolu village on NH.5. This centre has saved 25 people who were victims of road accidents.
The Trust has adopted an HIV child, 4 ½ years old Sumathi of Vasili village in Atmakur Mandal of Nellore district and is taking care of her.
Apart from the HIV/AIDS awareness camps, the Trust has conducted many Health Awareness Camps in the Rural Areas with the help of RICH. These camps includ early intervention of mentally retarded children. also It has established a permanent Health Centre at Kalichedu, a village in Saidapuram Mandal and another one at Venkatanarayana Puram of Vidavalur Mandal and catersing to the Medical needs of 20 villages.
The Trust has conducted a FREE EYE SURGERY CAMP at Kalichedu, Saidapuram Mandal.
HEALTH CARE FOR CHILDREN:
The Trust helps children with screening and care services which was started on 13th November,2003 at Vaikunta Puram, Nellore.
The Trust has a dream project “RAVI VASANTHAM” (The shining sun amidst the autumn) a satellite orphanage hamlet at Kakutur village in Venkatachalam Mandal in the district, in four acres land.
EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION:
Women are the pioneers and the nation builders and the back-bone of the social regeneration.
Unless, women and for their rights and become the champions in all spheres, we can not find a healthy society.
VLCT & RC committed itself to empower the women by counseling, which emphasizing the need of for educational and economic stability. The Trust built Self Help Groups (SHGs), by imparting vocational training.
This helps them to generate income. These activities are being carried through 10 Mandals in the district with 100 SHGs and 1500 women are benefited, out of this Programme.
VLCT & RC has also provided a Working Women’s Hostel at free of cost, with all secured arrangements in Nellore town of Nellore district.
For the fisher women folk in Krishnapatnam and Venkatanarayana Puram villages, the Trust introduced a novel Programme “Meenam-Manam” (we and the fish) better management of their income.
